Have I Missed Any Successful Defenses Against Assault Weapon Attacks?
These are the ones that came to my attention:
Elisjsha Dicken. 2022, at Greenwood, Indiana mall "neutralized" a guy who fired 24b rounds from an AR-15.
Also in 2022:
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — A woman in West Virginia fatally shot a man who began firing an AR-15-style rifle into a crowd of people that had gathered for a party, authorities said.
Jeanne Assam stopped the New Life Church mass murderer in 2007.
Clackamas Mall Shooter Faced Shopper With Concealed Weapon Permit
I have a vague memory of a mass murder interrupted at a barbecue place in Kansas City but I cannot find it. Do any of you have more examples?
Thank you all. I found enough to demonstrate their "expert" is not.

How Did I Miss This?
Police in El Paso, Texas say that a "licensed-to-carry" bystander shot the alleged gunman who is accused of killing one person and injuring another three.
The suspect, a 16-year-old Hispanic male, is accused of shooting the individuals after a "confrontation ensued" between two groups at Cielo Vista Mall on Wednesday evening at 5:05 p.m.
The El Paso Police Department said the confrontation eventually escalated into a "physical fight," and the 16-year-old pulled out a handgun, fatally shooting Angeles Zaragoza, 17, and injuring another 17-year-old and 15-year-old.
Police say that Emanuel Duran, 32, who is a licensed-to-carry holder, shot the suspect as he was pointing his gun toward the direction of more bystanders....
Investigators learned there were "at least" two more people who were legally armed, but weren't involved in the shooting.

Active Shooters Stopped by Civilians
Crime Prevention Research Center:
Evidence compiled by the Crime Prevention Research Center shows that the sources the media relied on undercounted the number of instances in which armed citizens have thwarted such attacks by an order of more than ten, saving untold numbers of lives. Of course, law-abiding citizens stopping these attacks are not rare. What is rare is national news coverage of those incidents. Although those many news stories about the Greenwood shooting also suggested that the defensive use of guns might endanger others, there is no evidence that these acts have harmed innocent victims.
The FBI reports that armed citizens only stopped 11 of the 252 active shooter incidents it identified for the period 2014-2021. The FBI defines active shooter incidents as those in which an individual actively kills or attempts to kill people in a populated, public area. But it does not include those it deems related to other criminal activity, such as a robbery or fighting over drug turf.
An analysis by my organization identified a total of 360 active shooter incidents during that period and found that an armed citizen stopped 124. A previous report looked at only instances when armed civilians stopped what likely would have been mass public shootings. There were another 24 cases that we didn’t include where armed civilians stopped armed attacks, but the suspect didn’t fire his gun. Those cases are excluded from our calculations, though it could be argued that a civilian also stopped what likely could have been an active shooting event.
Why this matters: news media parrot the FBI report and simply refuse to admit that there are other sources suggesting the FBI's data is in error.

Because the News Media Are Incorrectly Reporting That Concealed Carriers Seldom Stop Mass Murderers

The Hero in Indianapolis
More on the Indianapolis Mass Murder, Interrupted
Some have guessed that the uniquely spelled first name (Elisjsha) of the guy who stopped the mass murder suggested that he was black. No. Picture in 7/19/22 New York Post. Unique spellings or names that appear to have spelled with an Ouija board were at one time more common among African-Americans but in the last few years these unique spellings often come from evangelical homes, I do not really care which piano key color this hero was, but do not spread false information.

Another AR-15 Mass Shooting
Dennis Butler was killed after allegedly shooting at dozens of people attending a graduation party Wednesday near the Vista View Apartment complex. No injuries were reported from those at the party.Investigators said Butler was warned about speeding in the area with children present before he left. He later returned with an AR-15-style firearm and began firing into the crowd before he was shot and killed.
“Instead of running from the threat, she engaged with the threat and saved several lives last night,” Charleston Police Department Chief of Detectives Tony Hazelett said.
Officers did not go into detail, but said Butler did have an extensive criminal history.
What could have been another tragedy of huge numbers of deaths ended up as one dead killer.

Another Mass Murder That Won't Show Up in the Gun Violence Archive
9/2/21 Syracuse Post-Standard:
Syracuse, NY — A Syracuse property manager has been identified as the person who shot and killed a 28-year-old man Tuesday after the man allegedly fired a gun of his own at multiple people.
The property manager, Richard Morose, was at 1808 Lodi St. when he pulled a legally possessed 9mm handgun and killed Demetris Jackson, the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office said Thursday in a news release.
Jackson had just fired a 9mm handgun of his own at several people before Morose returned fire around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, the DA’s office said, based on a preliminary investigation.
While Syracuse police and prosecutors continue to investigate, “it appears that Mr. Morose saved the lives of several individuals,” the DA’s office wrote.

Their Side Claims
ARVADA, Colo. (AP) — A man who intervened in a shooting that killed a police officer near Denver was shot and killed by a responding officer while holding the suspect's AR-15, police said Friday.
Johnny Hurley, who has been described by police as a hero who prevented further bloodshed, shot suspect Ronald Troyke on Monday after Troyke gunned down Arvada Officer Gordon Beesley with a 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun. "
The officer had a split second decision to make in a confusing and fluid situation and he shot the guy who prevented a mass murder of police officers (his writings indicated that all police were the enemy; I wonder from where that idea came).
Training: if you shoot a bad guy, kick or push the gun away from the bad guy. Do not pick it up.

Why I Always Carry to Church
Two people are dead and another person is critically injured after a shooting at a church in the Tarrant County city of White Settlement, officials said.
Authorities responded to the shooting Sunday morning just before 10 a.m. at the West Freeway Church of Christ on Las Vegas Trail.
A witness told CBS 11 News the gunman walked up to a server during communion with a shotgun and then opened fire. According to the witness, another church member shot the suspect.12/29/19 WFAA:
A live stream of the worship service shows a person wearing a large coat stand up and then pull out what appears to be a rifle or a shotgun as communion was finishing. The shooter appears to fire twice before another person appears to shoot back.Video of the event. So many men drew on this guy! Six?
Many people in the congregation ducked under church pews while others rushed toward the shooter, holding up handguns, the video shows.
A church leader starts telling people to quiet down and be seated.
"Everything is under control. Our security team did everything they needed to do," the person said.
