Weird PayPal Transaction

My credit union showed a transfer to PayPal.  The amount was odd so I went to PayPal to see what I bought that went through PayPal to extract from checking account.   There was no PayPal transaction on that date or anytime for that amount.   I have flagged to my credit union as suspicious.   Can anyone imagine a scammer debiting a bank claiming to be PayPal that is not?
