Why Soros Backs Marijuana Decriminalization?

Conclusions and Relevance  Low-strength evidence suggests that smoking marijuana is associated with developing TGCT; its association with other cancers and the consequences of higher levels of use are unclear. Long-term studies in marijuana-only smokers would improve understanding of marijuana’s association with lung, oral, and other cancers.
TGCT: testicular germ cell tumor.

  1. Another way of saying that is that there really isn't much evidence.

It's like with Agent Orange - if you take a possible cause, and run it against 100 possible diseases, with a p < .05 significance value, you will end up with 5 false positives on average.

I don't post this to say that MJ use is harmless - it may, in fact, cause testicular cancer, and I'm surprised that they didn't find an association with lung cancer. In fact, I'd say that latter fact suggests a pretty low statistical power to the study.

  2. I suspect that the lack of evidence is due to the drug being illegal and accurate data as to frequency, dosage, and means of delivery in which the researchers have confidence is therefore unavailable.

I think this explains the lack of association with lung cancer.

We have a great opportunity here to find out just what Marijuana does for mental health, mental development, motivation, and respiratory diseases as well as TGCT. In the West it has a reputation of being a mellow, relaxing drug, but as doctors in India will tell, there is a strong association with violent psychotic episodes (If I have the terminology correct).

  3. Windy: I have read Mexico banned it in the 19th century after a series of mass murders believed to be associated with its use.

  4. Since we are talking about Soros here, it would be interesting to know if he has investments in treatments for the cancer. Soros always likes to make money while he is destroying civil society.
