Philosophy Does Attract Some Odd Birds.

4/18/19 New York Times about guy arrested carrying gasoline and lighter into St. Patrick's Cathedral:
Mr. Lamparello is a doctoral candidate in philosophy at the City University of New York. His mother told the New Jersey authorities he had an apartment in New York City....

He was a 2004 graduate of Boston College and was listed as teaching courses at Brooklyn College this spring. The police said Mr. Lamparello also taught at Seton Hall University in New Jersey.
4/18/19 New York Daily News reports:
“I’m not leaving!” Lamparello screamed as he threw himself on the cathedral floor. “God wants me here! I know all the sins the priests have committed!”
I suspect that I know why he is crazy and trying to light the ultimate candle in St. Patrick's.
Lamparello’s stunned father, in a chat with The News, described his son as a “brilliant” college professor who sounded fine in a phone call just hours before his arrest.

“Extremely out of character,” said the distraught dad Leonard, 79, about his son’s behavior. "He’s a brilliant professor. His writings — other professors can’t even understand his writings."
Must be brilliant if he can't communicate with anyone outside his tinfoil hat.

  1. In reading the linked article and others like it, it is amazing what the authorities say many times. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what this man's intentions were. They might not know why he was doing it, or if he was mentally stable, but they should be able to figure out what he wanted to do.

From myfox8.com in High Point, N.C.:

“It’s hard to say exactly what his intentions were but I think the totality of circumstances of an individual walking into an iconic location like St. Patrick’s Cathedral, carrying over four gallons of gasoline, two bottles of lighter fluid and lighters is something we would have great concern over,” Miller said.

  2. Isn't it strange, that "news" programs have so much trouble with guessing at a motive for something like this, but for more than 2 years they've had no problem at all describing President Trump as a traitorous Russian agent.

There's of course no whisper of the word "Muslim" in any of these church fires, bombings, or other desecrations, but that may be simple fear: the "religion of peace" allows no one to describe it accurately on pain of torture and death.

I no longer watch the "news" since so much of it is incorrect, false, or downright propaganda always favoring one side, so I miss out on most of the irritation I used to get from it, but articles like this always get my dander up!
