Your Collection of College Hate Crime Hoaxes

6/19/26 College Fix has a collection of college hate crime hoaxes. Among the more interesting stories: 1/16/26 College Fix:

A red cross and a reference to a 15th century French duke has caused an uproar at Northwestern University as LGBT students and professors fear for their safety.

Around Jan. 6, someone painted a “Cross of Burgundy” and wrote “CHARLES THE BOLD DUKE OF BURGUNDY 10 NOV 1433 — 5 JAN 1477” over a “trans flag” on campus. Students regularly paint over “The Rock” with various messages....

“It’s one thing to go repaint the entire rock white with a red (symbol) and take away the trans memorial,” Yarberry (pictured) told the student newspaper. “But to use the trans memorial as the backdrop for a symbol associated with Nazism and fascist ideologies, that is a very political statement.”

While Yarberry and others were painting over the X, “a student approached them and took responsibility for painting the cross.”

“[T]he student mostly defended the decision as solely expressing interest in the duke of Burgundy. The person did not identify themself,” the newspaper reported.

Yes, X is definitely a fascist symbol.  Remember these?

Products

Kudos to the student sufficiently interested in history to do homage to a Duke of Burgundy. I suspect most Poison Ivy League students think this is about a wine.

False Flag Hate Crime?

Someone vandalized a synagogue and a Muslim Community Center.  Who did Portland Police arrest?  MAGA hat wearer?  No.

Michael E. Bivins, 34, of Portland was booked this morning into the Multnomah County Detention Center on the following cases and charges:

And who is this guy?

In late 2020, Mike Bivins and leftist lawyer Michael Fuller of the Underdog Law Firm announced a $1 million lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security. Bivins alleged that while reporting on a riot in July, DHS intentionally sprayed him in the face with law enforcement grade tactical pepper spray, which allegedly caused ongoing burning in his eyes, respiratory system, and a severe rash on his neck.

Leftist journalists with prior association to Bivins were quick to speak out following the news of his arrest.

Yes, they knew him, co-authored articles with him, but otherwise put distance between them and him.  This was clearly intended as a hate crime.  Who would get the blame?

Does Racism Persist in America?

Of course.  How commonly?  The FBI's 2020 Hate Crimes Report shows a little under 8000 hate crime incidents.  In a nation of 322 million, that does not seem very high.  Obviously, not every expression of prejudice qualifies as a crime.  But reports like this from 10/1/21 Yahoo News:

Criminal charges were filed against Terresha Lucas, a 30-year-old Black woman

In an unexpected turn of events, this week authorities in Georgia revealed they believe a Black woman is behind the “racially charged” notes that have been terrorizing her neighborhood.

Since last December, a Douglasville, Georgia neighborhood has been gripped in fear due to racially charged messages that have anonymously been left in the mailboxes of residents of color, reports Fox News. But now officials say police said they have made an arrest and the alleged culprit is not who anyone would have expected.

Wednesday, the Douglasville Police Department confirmed that they had filed criminal charges against Terresha Lucas. Lucas is a 30-year-old Black woman who they believe threatened people in her community while posing as a Ku Klux Klan member.

These fake hate crmes are identified surprisingly commonly.  Fakehatecrimes.org  keeps track of them.  Now a few hundred fake hate crimes compared to a few thousand a year is not much.  But these were the fake hate crimes done so inexpertly as to be detected.  A reasonably competent self-victimizer could create a plausible looking hate crime that survives investigation.  The not bright ones include a lesbian minister in San Francisco whose "attackers" used permanent marker to write slurs on her face.  Police noticed immediately that they were reversed; as though whoever wrote them was looking in a mirror.

Why bother making these up?  Often they are to excite political tension and guilt privileged whites into supporting the latest expressions of anti-white hatred.  Sometimes they are simpler and sadder: a black woman who wanted to drop out of college and come home, so she put up racist graffiti.

Also of interest

Of the 6,431 known offenders:

  • 55.2% were White
  • 20.2% were Black or African American

So blacks are overrepresented among the offenders.  Not what you expected?

More Evidence That Racism Must Be In Short Supply

4/13/20 Newsweek describes a series of racist threats and attacks at the University of La Verne:
All the cases remained unsolved—until March 9, 2020. After nearly a year of investigations involving multiple agencies, the LVPD said at a press conference that Dominguez Peña, 25, had faked the threats against herself and others in ten total separate "incidents." The same day, she was arrested on felony charges of making criminal threats and perjury, as well as seven misdemeanors related to electronic impersonation and filing false police reports.

Another Fake Hate Crime

Reported in 4/13/20 Newsweek, no less:
"Every single one in this photo will get what is coming to them," read the ominous Instagram message sent to several students of color at the University of La Verne, east of Los Angeles, in March 2019. The accompanying black-and-white photo was of a group of outspoken students who were well-known on campus for organizing anti-racism protests. Seen in the photo: Anayeli Dominguez Peña, a Mexican-American graduate student and vocal social-justice campaigner. She had been instrumental in organizing numerous protests in the Decolonize ULV group she co-led.

If racism is so rampant in America, why the need to fake it?

No Shame

9/30/19 Washington Post reports black 6th grader who was a victim of three white boys who held her down to cut off her dreadlocks made it up,  Having run out of rapes and racially motivated hate crimes, racially motivated hair discrimination is the new big thing.

The Smollett Case

5/23/19 Chicago Tribune:
A Cook County judge Thursday ordered the case file in the aborted prosecution of “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett unsealed, marking a victory for the Chicago Tribune and other news organizations and adding another twist to a case with seemingly no end to controversy.
Smollett’s attorney had succeeded in sealing the court records at the same unannounced hearing in March at which State’s Attorney Kim Foxx’s office abruptly dropped all charges that the actor had staged a hate crime attack on himself....
As reporters waited for the criminal file to be unsealed, former state appellate judge Sheila O’Brien held a news conference to talk about her efforts to get a special prosecutor appointed to investigate Foxx’s handling of the case. She called the judge’s decision unsealing the court file a “good first step” but said more needs to be done to ensure transparency.
“It’s not the court file that’s all-important, it’s Ms. Foxx’s file and the decision-making process in how this case was handled,” O’Brien said in the courthouse lobby.
In her petition, O’Brien highlighted how Foxx recused herself early in the investigation after communicating with a Smollett relative — only to later claim that it was not a recusal “in the legal sense” that would have required the entire office to withdraw from the prosecution.
Communications later released to the Tribune showed Foxx had asked police Superintendent Eddie Johnson to turn over the investigation to the FBI after she was approached by Tina Tchen, a former chief of staff to first lady Michelle Obama.
Remember, racism remains so rampant that an obviously faked hate crime cannot be prosecuted.

When Even CNN Admits It Is Probably a Fake Hate Crime

Stick a fork in it.  2/16/19 CNN:
Chicago (CNN)Two law enforcement sources with knowledge of the investigation tell CNN that Chicago Police believe actor Jussie Smollett paid two men to orchestrate an assault on him that he reported late last month.
2/17/19 [U.K.] Daily Mail has even more details:
Empire star Jussie Smollett has furiously denied paying two Nigerian brothers $3,500 to attack him and says he is 'angered and devastated' after investigators in Chicago claimed he orchestrated his own assault.
Smollett’s attorneys, Todd S. Pugh and Victor P. Henderson, told Entertainment Weekly: 'As a victim of a hate crime who has cooperated with the police investigation, Jussie Smollett is angered and devastated by recent reports that the perpetrators are individuals he is familiar with.
'He has now been further victimized by claims attributed to these alleged perpetrators that Jussie played a role in his own attack. Nothing is further from the truth and anyone claiming otherwise is lying.'
His lawyers now say that one of men was Smollett’s personal trainer for a music video.  They added: 'One of these purported suspects was Jussie’s personal trainer who he hired to ready him physically for a music video.
'It is impossible to believe that this person could have played a role in the crime against Jussie or would falsely claim Jussie’s complicity.' ...
That narrative, however, is now under serious scrutiny by investigators, who reportedly have evidence that Smollett directed his 'attackers' to buy the rope used in the 'assault' at a local hardware store.
Documents prove two Nigerian brothers who work as extras on the highly rated Fox drama bought the rope which was found around Smollett’s neck at Crafty Beaver Hardware Store in Chicago.
The brothers made the purchase on the weekend of January 25.
Wow!  Chicago PD is way more effective than I expected.

More Fake News and Hate Crimes

Chicago Police Department had reviewed hundreds of hours of video tape and found no evidence that this actor was attacked by MAGA hat wearing homophobes, out wandering the streets with a nose in subzero weather. And the left wonders why we no longer believe anything they say.https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-met-chicago-cold-weather-20190127-story.html

Trump Hatred Never Stops!

A Baldwin woman who claimed earlier this month a group of teens shouted “Trump 2016!” at her was arrested and charged with making a false statement, Nassau County police said.
Adwoa Lewis, 19, also admitted writing a note reading “Go Home” that she said she found next to her slashed tire, police said Saturday. Nassau police had investigated the incident as a possible hate crime, Det. Lt. Richard LeBrun said at the time.
Lewis told officers on Sept. 2 that four teens confronted her about 11:15 p.m. the previous day as she drove home on Jackson Street and told her “she didn’t belong here,” police said Saturday. Lewis also said the teens shouted “Trump will make America great again,” LeBrun said at the time.
She now admits she made it up.

More Fake Hate Crimes

8/24/18 MLIVE:

GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- A story about a white man urinating on a 5-year-old black child and calling her a racial slur was fabricated, police said.
Grand Rapids police and prosecutors late Friday, Aug. 24 said they determined the story was not valid and said no charges would be issued against a 60-year-old man arrested following the initial report on Wednesday.

I Am Sure That Millennials Everywhere Have Heard This Story, At Least the Lie on Social Media

7/23/18 Washington Post:
The Texas restaurant company that banned a customer after an employee’s story of a receipt scrawled with a racial epithet went viral said Monday that it had parted ways with the employee and learned that the story was spurious.
“After further investigation, we have learned that our employee fabricated the entire story,” Terry Turney, the chief operating officer of Saltgrass steakhouses, said in a statement. “Racism of any form is intolerable, and we will always act swiftly should it occur in any of our establishments. Falsely accusing someone of racism is equaling disturbing.”
There are real hate crimes, but so many of the publicized ones are just progressive agit-prop.

Homophobic Attack on Inclusive Church

Did you even have to ask? 5/3/17 WTHR:
BEAN BLOSSOM, Ind. (WTHR) - A Brown County church vandalized with Donald Trump graffiti shortly after the 2016 election wasn't targeted by pro-Trump political activists, but a member of their own congregation, according to police.
People suspected the KKK or some other hate group was responsible for the graffiti. The arrest of the church organist, was a surprise - and a relief.
The Brown County prosecuting attorney's office issued a statement Wednesday saying they had charged 26-year-old George Nathaniel Stang of Bloomington with institutional criminal mischief, a misdemeanor. Stang was the man who originally claimed to have found the graffiti, and works as the organist at St. David's Episcopal Church in Bean Blossom....
Detectives immediately suspected the crime was committed by someone familiar with the church. They said cell phone records put Stang in the area Saturday night.
According to court records, when confronted with the evidence, the 26-year-old gay man confessed.
Investigators say Stang admitted to painting the "Heil Trump" and "Fag Church" graffiti himself because he wanted to "mobilize a movement after being disappointed in and fearful of the outcome of the national election." He insisted his actions were not motivated by anti-Christian or anti-gay sentiments.

Those Black Neo-Nazis Must Be Confused

 - Court records show the man accused of spray-painting a swastika inside a residence hall at the University of Maryland in September is African American.
Students were surprised to learn someone who is a member of a race which has been historically oppressed is accused of the hate-related incident.
"I guess it proves that you don't have to be a certain race to hate people, but I mean, it's just you would think that someone, especially from a race that has been subjected to hate before, you would think why would you want to reciprocate that to somebody else," said student Abby Gorun.
So fake hate crime or AA at the Order?

Fake Hate Crime Against Fake Jew

A man in in upstate New York admitted to spray-painting swastikas and hate messages on his own home.
Andrew King pleaded guilty last week in Schenectady City Court to week to falsely reporting an incident, which is a misdemeanor crime, the Albany Times Union reported Tuesday....
Jewish leaders in Schenectady say that King, who was interviewed by the local media in front of his defaced home wearing a kippah, is not Jewish. He tried to convert several times but was rejected by at least two congregations, according to local ABC affiliate, News10.
Most hate crimes are not found to be fake, but I suspect that not every faker is so incompetent as to get caught.

Thought I Had Blogged This Fake Hate Crime

5/4/17 WBIW:
(BEAN BLOSSOM) - The organist at a Brown County church is accused of vandalizing the church in order to "mobilize a movement" after he was disappointed by the election results.
After an extensive six-month investigation, police arrested 26-year-old George Nathaniel Stang of Bloomington on charges of institutional criminal mischief in connection with the vandalism that occurred last year at St. David's Episcopal Church located at the intersection of Ind. 135 and Ind. 45 in the Brown County community of Bean Blossom.
The investigation began on November 13, 2016 when Reverend Kelsey Hutto called police to report that the phrase "HEIL TRUMP" was painted on the north wall of the building, and a swastika and gay slur were painted on the west side....
Police questioned Stang at his apartment on February 23, 2017, and he denied being at the church on Saturday.
But when an officer questioned Stang again on April 28, 2017, he admitted to vandalizing the church. He was arrested Wednesday.
Stang told police, he wanted to "mobilize a movement" after being disappointed in and fearful of the election results. He told police his actions were not motivated by "anti-Christian or anti-gay" feelings; rather, they were strictly out of fear.
