I have always countered the human-caused global warming/climate change/climate disruption nuts with the following:
"If you wish to control the temperature of the Earth, you need to find, access, and operate the thermostat on the giant ball of fire in the sky. Anything else is just a scheme to steal my freedom, wealth, and property."
