Holster Review

I'm sure you've seen the ads for the Sneaky Pete holster intended to look like a cell phone case.  I bought one of the cheap competitors made by Bulldog.  It's nylon not leather which is why it costs $15.30 Amazon Prime, not $60.

On the plus side, it has both belt loop and clip, so no need to decide at purchase which makes more sense.  I prefer belt loops because clips, in my experience lose their spring fast enough that drawing a gun often draws the holster as well.

It isn't specific to one gun but it fits my Colt Mustang well.and is advertised for the Sig Sauer P238.  Left or right hand?  There is a little metal spacer that clips on the edge which can be placed for use as either.

The flap is held down by two strong magnets.  It's not a retention holster, but the gun isn't going to fly out.  Bulldog makes a point that you can't put your finger inside the trigger guard while drawing.  That's certainly true for my Mustang; it may not be true for all tiny pistols.  As you might expect it isn't a blindingly fast draw, but you usually have enough warning of a potential threat (if you are paying attention, and you should) that you don't need to be QuickDraw McGraw.

There are some obvious advantages over concealment holsters.  Most IWB holsters are a bit uncomfortable unless your belt is a bit loose; looser still once the gun is drawn.  It's hard to take someone seriously who is holding a gun with one hand and his pants up with the other.  Also, the barrel of the gun is pointing away from your leg; many years ago, I worked for a company in the Bay Area where one of the armed security guards shot himself in the foot after business hours practicing his quick draw.  No need for a coat, which really helps in the three nice seasons of Idaho weather.

Does it conceal well?  In this age when everyone carries a cell phone of many sizes, it is just a little large, but unless someone is looking for it, they won't notice.  Obviously, this is only suitable for .22LR, .32ACP, .25ACP, .380ACP, and some of the very tiny 9mm pistols.  (Yes, I know, these aren't serious calibers, but the gun you have with you is better than the gun too heavy or bulky to carry comfortably.)  I think the Kimber micro9 might fit.  A service pistol version will require the return to service of these cell phones.
