Other news reports suggest he was already charged or in the process of being charged for murdering Agyei-Kodie, and that the 'more serious charge' aspect was going from assault on Caesar to attempted murder on Caesar as a separate charge. So that part, at least, looks like typographical errors.
ReplyDeleteThe actions of the relevant authorities still boggle the mind, though: lying in wait for assault with a deadly weapon by a foreign national is a pretty classical situation to not allow bail, and there are more and more people coming out of the woodwork with really ugly habits by this guy. To some extent, that's probably somewhat inflated by the media attention in this case -- everyone knows a murderer was going to snap, once in retrospect -- but many acted in ways that should have left a pretty nontrivial documentation trail.
