Ancient History

At least into the 1950s, it was fashionable to bronze each baby's first shoes. My mother kept all of her childrens' bronzed baby shoes on the mantle. I am not sure if these were dipped or more likely eelectrocuted.
Eventually, I received one of mine.

    • dipped in or painted with lacquer
    • sprayed with conductive coating
    • electroplated

  2. Not my mother. I suspect she saved them for my brothers to wear and then forgot about them. There was so little wear on them, I wonder if any of us actually put them on the ground.
They are usually high tops not because of ankle support or anything health related, but to enable the mother to tie them so that they will stay on the baby's feet (very likely so as to help preserve the mother's sanity, so that would be health related ;) ).
