Screw Extractor

I have never had much luck using screw extractors.   Today, it worked.  I was using a power screwdriver to sink some 6-32 stainless steel SHCSs.  I had the torque too high, and I stripped the inner hexagon.  (For odd reason,  no one makes round Allen wrenches.)

A little learning. Instead of sinking the pilot hole with the drill press, I used the mill at 1 inch per minute, .7 inches deep.  Using the power screwdriver with the lefthanded extractor bit just slipped in the jaws,  so I used a tap wrench.  It worked!

  1. Can often use a small flat driver to catch the edges of the hex as well...

    1. Good idea if I ever have one with any corners left.
