This Was Not on my Bingo Card

"DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. — A Douglas County homeowner told investigators that he was forced to shoot and kill an off-duty Atlanta police detective after the officer tried to break into his neighbor’s home on Friday morning."

  1. The chief or sheriff said that he was either having a mental breakdown or on drugs. And he won "officer of the year" or "detective of the year" (it isn't clear) in September of 2024. I'm thinking that they need to up their game on selection for awards

  2. Very weird. The quoted sentence is misleading: it seems to imply that the home Horton (the dead man) broke into was that of the shooter's neighbor. But other coverage makes it clear that it was the shooter's own house, he being a neighbor of Horton. He lived nearby, so apparently Atlanta PD doesn't have a residency requirement.

The sheriff's office said that Horton man was seen on video, apparently on drugs or demented. He had received the "Investigator of the Year" award just a week before.

Coverage also refers to Horton being "a loving father" and to his girlfriend, but does not mention a wife.
