Venus' Girdle


The pink section is where the Sun is illuminating the atmosphere still but below it the Earth's shadow predominates.

    A beautiful and interesting picture. I have heard the phrase alpenglow, a similar effect I've seen in the Sierra Nevada, but never Venus's Girdle.
