Looking at the assault weapons ban introduced in 2019, I see that the Marlin Camp Carbine (both 9mm and .45 ACP) are specifically exempted. Obviously the high capacity magazine limits would still apply, but the Marlin Camp Carbine 9 uses S&W pistol magazines and would be subject only to the 15 round limit. There are high cap 1911 magazines for the Camp Carbine 45, and 15 rounders that will fit the 9mm. Why exempt it? Brown wooden stock; "Black Rifles Matter." To my surprise many Marlin Camp Carbine parts remain available ; including the Marlin Camp Scope Base. With the effective range of these cartridges, I would think a red dot scope would be the best choice.
I have a Camp 45 that I like and shoot a lot.
ReplyDeleteOver the years I've corrected the shortcomings from the factory and turned it into a very good, reliable carbine for SHTF, self defense, and hunting.
I beefed up and glassed the stock at the rear of the receiver, installed a 21# recoil spring, removed the magazine disconnect, smoothed the trigger and sear, and installed a Power Custom recoil buffer, a hammer strut bridge and extended bolt handle from Grandmasters LLC and Duracoated the barrel and receiver.
It's carried a Burris 1X scope for several years. I recently ordered a See-All sight to try out. I have an aversion to sights that require batteries.
I found that pistol ammo is slower from the 16" barrel than from my 5" pistol barrel so I developed a load that gives better velocity (still subsonic) and reliability from the carbine while still being usable in the pistol.
I paid $300 for it new. I recently turned down an offer of $1200.
The MEC-Gar SW59xx series of magazines include 15, 17 and 20 rounds for the Camp 9. Many of the interior parts are available as new from third parties. Most 9mm rounds are designed for 3 to 5 inch barrels, so the 16 inch barrel gives only a small increase in muzzle energy. But the report is lower (more of the propellant used to push the bullet, not just burn outside the muzzle) and the combination of three points of support and longer sight radius (or scope) makes a huge improvement in hitting farther targets. It's also a lot of fun to shoot!
ReplyDeleteAny thoughts on the Winchester 1892 Carbine in .357 mag?

tkc: Find Browning's design that use muzzle gases to operate the level. It was a bump stock machine gun.
DeleteIs there a LCM for the Browning?
DeleteHmmm... A Browning Bar MkIII. It doesn't seem to be on MD's scary gun list. .308 or .30-06 would be nice.

The .357mag preference is because that is what I load for my Ruger Blackhawk but it is not a deal stopper.
