Postpartum Depression

As I read through tragedy after tragedy where a mother murders all her children and then commits suicide, I keep thinking postpartum depression. Here's one:

Kieler, Wisc. (1905)

Before 6/17/1905: Woman slits the throats of her four children, the oldest being 6, “the youngest a baby,” then slits her own throat.
