Commonsense Alcohol Laws

50% of murderers were under the influence of alcohol at the time

About 40% of criminals who are currently in prison for violent crimes such as assault, domestic abuse, or homicide had an excessively high blood alcohol content when they were arrested

One DUI death every 50 minutes
The annual cost of alcohol-related crashes totals more than $44 billion

Alcoholics have suicide rates 5080x that of the general population
All to benefit a small number of alcoholics and the alcohol industry promoting its dangerous product as fun and safe

We already have a ban on sales to those under 21
We need these additional commonsense regulations

  • Bans on distilled alcohol (who needs these?)
  • Background checks and waiting periods to reduce suicides and murders
  • Bans on alcohol purchase by DUI convicts and those treated for alcoholism
  • Bans on private party transfers of alcohol without background checks
  • Bans on sales across state lines
  • Serial numbers and registration on all bottles to track down unlawful resale
  • Bans on high capacity alcohol magazines (kegs, pony kegs) that are preferred among college students for events at which date rape (or "Kavanaughing"") is the goal
Regulation of sale of raw materials for homemade alcohol (sugar, grapes, wheat, corn, hops, yeast)

  1. Laudable as your suggestions are, I'd propose one additional regulation:
Forbid the sale of alcoholic dose-forms entirely. ("Beverages" is, of course, a euphemism for what they truly are.)Instead, anyone wishing to give themselves ethanol poisoning must ferment it for themselves. There should be strict limits on the amount that can produced, and they are forbidden to sell any portion of what they make. Of course, they will have to be licensed, and their facilities must be open to random, unannounced inspection to ensure safe procedures are followed.

Violation of these regulations must be a capital offense, with execution by alcohol overdose administered intravenously.

I doubt that many alcoholics will have the means or self-discipline to attempt more than weak, sour beer.

  2. Reasonable Regulations. Makes sense to me!
And no pesky Constitutional issues. Only a greedy industry, addicted customers and a lobbying group with the legislators in their pocket. What's with this, "We've already tried prohibition and it didn't work" crap? A), it wasn't tried properly, and B), when the big money interests started talking about repeal, the vast population began to not respect the law. Common sense laws!

  4. "Bans on distilled alcohol (who needs these?)"

People on the keto diet who want to drink but not get any carbs.

  5. Jonathan: that's like the target shooting excuse for AR-15s: no one NEEDS to drink. :-) But of course while this is satire, it is also true. There is no RDA for ethanol.
