There is a channel on YouTube called "The History Guy" which has just now given me information on a second mass murder. (The first was one that I already knew about.) This is about a family ax-murdered in 1874 in southern Illinois. I am searching 1874 newspapers right now, and while I might have found it, a lot historical research is like this: happenstance discoveries.
