Cold Rice
One of the home physical therapy tricks is to have a huge box of uncoooked rice in the fridge. Unlike an icepack, the rice gets between the fingers, and chills everything enough for me to exercise my somewhat edemic fingers.
That's actually kind of ironic--this site http://www.dpmclimbing.com/articles/view/way-iron-fist recommends using a bucket of rice as a tool for strengthening the hands and forearms for climbing.
rice from the freezer works well. I picked up a method from a chiropracter long ago--you take a freezer-type ziploc, and put in this mixture: one part rubbing alcohol, 2 parts water. then put this bag in another ziploc, to avoid leaks. put this in the freezer a few hours. it does not freeze solid, but turns into a type of gel. if you do a couple of these, one can keep recycling them.
We also keep large, ziploc bags of unpopped popcorn in the freezer for that same type of relief.

ReplyDeleteShould do wonders for pistol shooting as well.
