Another Democrat Wall Street Crook

And a big one, at that.  R. Allen Stanford claims to be suffering from amnesia, which makes it hard for him to remember what he did.  From Associated Press at the December 20, 2011 Idaho Statesman:
HOUSTON — A forensic psychologist testified Tuesday that jailed Texas financier R. Allen Stanford is mentally stable and competent to be tried next month on charges he bilked investors out of $7 billion in a massive Ponzi scheme.
...

Several medical experts who plan to testify for Stanford at the hearing, which could last up to three days, say the financier suffers from a variety of mental conditions, including post-traumatic stress disorder from his jail fight, a major depressive disorder and bipolar disorder.
Stanford is also claiming head injuries he suffered in the jail fight gave him retrograde amnesia, leaving him with complete memory loss of all events in his life prior to that assault, including details about his business operations.
Cochrane testified he disagreed with the conclusions by Stanford's medical experts and told Hittner neurological testing done on the financier shows he is "malingering" or faking symptoms of his amnesia."According to our neurologist, there was no impairment in any of the memory centers in the brain," Cochrane said.

Go back a couple of years, however, and you discover the con man has friends in low places.  From February 19, 2009 ABC News:
Authorities tell ABC News that as part of the investigation, which has been ongoing since last year, Mexican authorities detained one of Stanford's private planes. According to officials, checks found inside the plane were believed to be connected to the Gulf cartel, reputed to be Mexico's most violent gang. Authorities say Stanford could potentially face criminal charges of money laundering and bribery of foreign officials.
...
The federal investigation, however, did not stop Stanford from using corporate money to become a big man at last year's Democratic convention in Denver.
A video posted on the firm's web-site shows Stanford, now sought by U.S. Marshals, being hugged by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and praised by former President Bill Clinton for helping to finance a convention-related forum and party put on by the National Democratic Institute.
That so many of these crooks are not just active Democrats, but high level ones with friends like this--you would think it would embarrass the Democrats to keep pretending to be the party of the little guys.

  2. Difference between a Republican and a Democrat. The Republican doesn't pretend to care about the little people!
