Email Problems

My personal email firstname @ firstnamelastname.com receives but cannot send.  Thunderbird times out on send.  My mailhost has no answers.  They see connection attempt.  So I tried Outlook.

SmtpSubmissionPermanent5XXException: Smtp submission failed. Server 'claytoncramer.com' Port '465'. --> Unexpected SMTP server response. Expected: 235, actual: 535, whole response: 535 Incorrect authentication data

Failure code: d8f5

  1. Gmail occasionally takes exception to Thunderbird. Login to your account via web, see if there are any flags around you Thunderbird session (under devices at accounts.google.com)

Google hates Thunderbird, because they cannot track which links you actually click. They hate not knowing EVERYTHING you do.

I just reinstalled Thunderbird on a new PC. There is a setup script that runs when you add a new account. (I have multiple accounts routed to Thunderbird.) I don't know if there is a way to invoke that script or not after the fact. How mine is set up in Thunderbird settings is below.

I would say check with support community, but TB and Firefox have gone downhill lately. (YouTube doesn't work at all under FF right now) Good luck.

    Edit menu, edit Account Settings.
Outgoing Server (SMTP) = Google Mail - smtp.gmail.com

    Edit SMTP server.
    Description = Google Mail
    Server name="smtp.gmail.com"
    Port 465. Security and Authentication
    Connection security SSL/TLS
    Authentication method OAuth2
    User Name = email address

  2. This is an authentication error between your thunderbird settings and the providers settings. See this post https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/4684674/emails-kicked-back-code-535

  3. The most common problem is this: The solution to my problem was that I had changed my email password and I'd updated my email account password via the Outlook Account screen. But you also need to check the 'More Options' box to go and change the password for the SMTP server on this second screen.

This explains why I could receive emails (password correct for incoming emails, but couldn't send (password still using old one for SMTP server).

    Now all working for me.
