MADISON, Wis. — A Taiwanese company that assembles Apple's iPhones and other electronics is considering building a plant in Wisconsin that could employ thousands of people and give Gov. Scott Walker a huge political boost as he prepares to run for re-election.
A person with direct knowledge of the negotiations who was not authorized to speak publicly confirmed to The Associated Press on Wednesday that the state is in talks with Foxconn. At least one other upper Midwest state, Michigan, is also pursuing the plant.
It hasn't happened yet, but even serious discussion is a win. And there won't be discussion of exploitation and virtual slavery in Wisconsin, will there?
There won't be any such discussion, it's an iphone.
ReplyDeleteThat discussion only comes standard (or as an option, btw) with other products. Nike shoes, for instance.
The Taiwanese company will rent a warehouse or three, stack shipping containers into living quarters, and bring its entire workforce over on H1b visas. All workers will be registered as Democrats, and signed on to the local labor union. They will not be informed of this.
ReplyDeleteThe union will be informed that the gravy will continue to flow as long as no one from the local or national office shows up on site to pollute the punch bowl.
Workers will be told to sign their ballots when they arrive in the mail and turn them over to company reps otherwise unblemished. The ballots will then be sold to the party promising the best deal to the company, tax or benefit wise.
Or am I just becoming hopelessly cynical in my old age?
Looking forward to what the Wi dems will come up with to criticize Gov. Walker over this. Most likely environmental impact ! Oscar Meyer factory is open in Madison !
