It would appear that open carry is now legal in Hawaii. I would count on police stopping you and asking for ID for a background check.

Major Victory in Hawaii
In response to a suit on which I contributed expert declarations, Hawaii has revised their weapons laws. A bunch of deadly weapons that used to be prohibited from open carry (clubs, switch blades, butterfly knives and handguns) are now only prohibited for concealed carry or if used in conjunction with a misdemeanor or felony while openly carried.
