One RPD Motor and Gearing

Yes I need one revolution per day motor or more likely motor and gearing (likely a worm gear).  Any suggestions?  I have a motor that I think is doing one rpm.  It has a hand controller and battery pack, so a gear combination that gives a 1440:1 reduction would likely be sufficient -- probably a worm gear.

To clarify, constant speed of 1 rpd.  Servos can approximate this but unless it has a lot steps, it is going to be only sometimes on target.  86,400 step motor would be perfect.

The torque required is not a lot.  It is turning a mass of about two kilograms.

  1. Not related to this post, but I thought you would find this interesting. Maybe even helpful in your scholarship. :)

  2. How much torque do you need? The hour hand on any clock makes 2 revolutions per day. And there probably are 24 hour analog clocks still available somewhere, though they may have deliver the torque. The clock building sites may have the gear trains you would need.

  3. Can you use a servo to control it the correct RPM accurate enough? Those can have a fair amount of power, and they are everywhere for not a lot of money - depending on your power requirements. (For all the people building small ground-rover robots to battle bots and up)

  4. What you want is a clock drive motor, 1 rpd.

  5. Most wall clocks have a pretty accurate 2 rpd motor in them, but not a lot of power.

But are you looking for a period of 1440 minutes, or 1436?

  6. Do you need one revolution per day, or a setup running at a constant speed of 1 rpd? If it's the former, some sort of switch that runs the rig one revolution, once a day, would seem to suffice.

  7. One RPD. I've been wanting a clock that instead of hours would do one revolution per year, so I could say "It's half-past February."
Yes, I have an "Unusual" sense of humor.
