Do Any of You Live in NYC? Or Philly? Or Brooklyn?
Are Central Park's gates the only entrances to the Park? My memories of the Park are that it was not particularly blocked off from street access.
Ditto for Prospect Park (in Brooklyn) and Fairmont Park (in Philly).
I just "walked" about halfway around Central Park with Google StreetView. There are lots of entrances, but between them there are walls between the park and the sidewalk. Most of these walls are low; some low enough to step over. In other places the walls are about four feet high with benches in front (so easily climbed over). THe ground inside is elevated.? Does that help.

I had forgotten StreetView. GoogleEarth has too many trees to see this.
