Two Heads Are Better Than One

Especially if one is your wife's.  She asked me several questions about the goals for the observatory.

1. Out of the wind and cold.  The rollaway building accomplishes none of that.

2. Improved north aim for tracking.   We are going to spray paint a north arrow in glow-in-the-dark paint on the concrete.  True North is 13 degrees west of magnetic north.

3. Faster in and out of service.  She used her superior spatial skills to rearrange Big Bertha in the telescope garage.  Two night ago it was two minutes out and two minutes back in.

Of course it is now snowing heavily so I will likely not be able to do much for a while.

  1. It is strange sometimes, how God made our wives just for us. My wife and I are pretty much opposites as far as temperaments go, with me being a super laid back, patient person, and her, well, not. But if I need a better set of eyes or a better perspective on something, she would be the one I would want even if we were not married, because she just has the ability to cut through some of the non important things and get to the heart of the matter.
I am in Michigan, where we say if you don't like the weather, just wait until the afternoon, when it will change. We have had snow, rain, sleet, and also 65 degree days, in the same week, since the last half of November. Today it is 34 degrees and full sun.
As a kid, in the 70's, we had enough snow to ride snowmobiles inside of our small town. Now it is hardly worth spending the money on a snowmobile, unless you also buy a trailer to tow it up north to a place where they get a lot of snow. Plus the fact that a new snowmobile costs as much as a decent used car. I would rather stay inside where it is warm.
