Speedy Trial

We just assume there is a right to speedy trial. The Jan. 6 defendants are still waiting.   But here is one even worse.  1/4/22 Seattle Times:
"At one time, Emanuel Fair was the longest-serving inmate in the King County Jail, spending nine years behind bars without being convicted of a crime."

Yes he could not make bail but nine years waiting for trial?

So I looked up Washington State's speedy trial rule.  It requires trial in 60 days.  Why is progressive Washington doing stuff like this.  And yes he was found innocent.

  2. California has a similar speedy trial rule, and in addition, civil actions have to come to trial within five years of filing the complaint with the court.
