Some years back, when I worked for HP, the Canon engineers were visiting from Japan. (HP LaserJets were built on a Canon laser printer engine.) There had been long discussions of the problem of lightning strikes and the stability problems for electricity. I understood Canon was not considering lightning a common enough problem about which to worry, so we arranged a demonstration while they were in the conference room.
