Ring Retrieval
I bought a 1 1/2" hose which fit snugly in the 2 1/2" hose on the shopvac. No luck. I bought them as a Christmas gift; I will buy her another pair. They were not hideously expensive.
An electrician's fish tape will probably reach as far as you want. But you will probably have to run it all the way to the next vent, then attach a big sponge or wad of rags to fill up the duct, then pull it back. Or maybe attach a large grabber with a lot of fingers, like a rake.
