Another Near-Miss
110 meters across, 45,000 mulls from Earth. Not sure if that is from center or surface, but either way, not something you want hitting Earth, especially because it could easily be mistaken for a small nuclear attack.
I have read that nothing survived within 25 miles of Barringer. Of course, nuclear weapon yield is less energetic than conventional explosives: no expanding gases from the nitrogen bond rupture.
I calculate the energy equal to about 100 megatons. So not so small.
ReplyDelete(The Barringer Crater was made by a 50 meter object that released 10 megatons.)
