Chronicling America
When you click on this URL, do you see a newspaper page, or a black image with a few red stripes?
The image of a newspaper with red marks redacting some parts of the text.
If it is giving the behavior you described, I wonder if the red marks are not properly merged into the image. If that's the case, it also means that the information you mean to obscure can be read if someone is seriously interesting.
I see a scanned newspaper page for the "Bossier Banner" on a black background. Some variants on the word "murder" on the newspaper page are highlighted with red bars.
For a second or two it is the black image with red lines and then the image of the newspaper appears with the red highlights (search string) remaining. Using older version of Safari on an old iPad that won't upgrade past iOS 9.x.
Mine also loaded well, but with a small delay. I'm on Google Fiber so I have a download speed of a gigabit available. To my laptop on wifi I only get about 350M so I suspect it's just a matter of being patient for those of you like our gracious host who have to live with slower speeds.
At first the black image, which quickly resolved into a newspaper page with red highlights on "murder" and "murders" over the space of a few seconds.
ReplyDeleteIt's a killer of a page!
News paper shows up and can be zoomed in and read, with a highlight in red wherever the word murder appears, in Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome.
ReplyDeleteNewspaper front page (Blossier Banner?), with a few pieces of text highlighted in red.
ReplyDeleteIt is still petered out, not as bad but far from the original.
ReplyDeleteSome images now show

ReplyDeleteMe too. Android phone.

Looks normal to me. I'm using Opera.
ReplyDeleteIt loads really slowly, so I see black with red boxes/highlighting and then the image appears, fuzzy at first and then clear.
ReplyDeleteI've taken a series of screen-shots that I think get the part of the page that you want, and placed them here:

ReplyDeleteI see the red stripe highlighting the word 'murder' first then the newspaper page appears. Everything was legible.
ReplyDeleteNewspaper image.

ReplyDeleteThanks to all. I cleared my browser cache. I tried with Chrome. Nothing seems to fix this.
ReplyDeleteIt works in Chrome, just not in Vivaldi.
ReplyDeleteI spoke too soon, it does not consistently work in Chrome.
