Today's Silly Machining Question
Edge milling is turning out to be much faster and less likely to jam the workpiece (which burns out the drive belt if I am not paying attention) than face milling. Why? Should I be using a different end mill?
Other than plunge cutting, face cutting is using the end + the shoulder(side) to remove material. That's a lot of contact. Using just the side to shave an edge is less cutting edge in engagement at one time (unless you are working a very wide surface), so less power is required.
