A number of Illinois counties have passed resolutions declaring themselves as “sanctuary” counties for gun owners in an effort to stop the state legislature from pushing gun control measures, the Associated Press reported.
If the state legislature passes gun bills in Illinois – such as increasing the minimum age for owning a gun, a limit on magazine capacity or a bump stock ban – these Illinois counties would prevent their employees from enforcing such laws.If states can declare themselves sanctuaries for illegal aliens, then doing so for rights explicitly protected by the Second Amendment is a no-brainer. I look forward to Idaho doing the same when Democrats again take control of Congress and ban semiauto rifles.
Think Charles Laughton playing Quasimodo in the 1939 Hunchback of Notre Dame.
More likely it will end in tears for any citizens foolish enough to trust counties or states making these symbolic gestures.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised that the County Clerk in Kentucky that refused to sign same sex marriage licenses didn't think of the states' rights argument. Maybe she didn't have the support of the County Supervisors.
ReplyDeleteBut yes, I can't see the Leftists reacting to this as peacefully as they expect the conservatives to react.
Doubtless lacked supervisor support. There is a 10th Amendment argument, upheld in the Printz decision.
