If You Do Not Know About It, It Did Not Happen

Nor will you let it influence you.  4/12/18 Daily Wire:
According to a new survey released on Thursday by the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany, fully 41 percent of Americans don’t know what Auschwitz was, including two-thirds of Millennials. Approximately 22 percent of Millennials had not heard of the Holocaust, and 41 percent of Millennials thought 2 million or fewer Jews were murdered during the Holocaust.
This is troubling stuff.
It’s also informative, because it helps explain just why younger Americans seem so comfortable embracing identity politics and large, intrusive government. If you’d never heard of the genocide of the Jews by an all-encompassing state focused laserlike on race-based differences between people, you might be warmer to the notion that racial hierarchies in politics ought to exist. You might also be warmer to the claims of genocidal Islamist terror groups who claim that Israel is a land of victimizers. And if you’d never heard of the Soviet Union, you might be more sanguine about the possibility of socialism in the United States.
This is just one reason why teaching of history in America’s public schools matters so much. But that teaching in recent decades has revolved not around signal events in world history, but around the revisionist histories of Leftist advocates like Howard Zinn, who focus in tremendous detail on the sins of America without spelling out the true history of alternatives to the American way throughout the 20th century.
Yes, it can happen again.  Armed to prevent genocide: makes for a fine bumper sticker.

  1. And, even more Americans don't know that almost as many non-Jews as Jews were massacred - gypsies, Catholics, Jehovah's Witnesses, political prisoners, homosexuals, mental "defectives" and more.

When "identities" become targets of disdain, they can become targets of extermination.

  2. That article is no surprise. Young people haven't been taught history or civics for a long time now. They don't get this education in K-12 schools, nor do they get shop classes or Home Ec. They don't get a useful education: what they do get is brainwashing, and they get that full measure.

The first time I saw a YouTube video, where an interviewer was asking university students about US history- where you or I would have been able to answer almost all of the simple questions correctly- (e.g. "When was the Civil War? Who fought in it? Name the first President of the USA. When was the Constitution adopted? What is President Lincoln remembered for?" etc.) hardly any of the students could answer any of the questions; it shocked and horrified me. Now, I'm used to this ignorance.

The students gave answers like, "Who won the Civil War? Um, I don't know- we did, didn't we? It was in 1965, wasn't it?"

If you haven't seen any of these, try these two for a start:

Most young people these days have never heard of the Holocaust either, and have no idea that that huge death toll was dwarfed by other dictators such as Lenin and Mao.

If you ask them "Who's like Hitler?" though, they DO know that one: it's Donald Trump!
