"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." -- Rom. 8:28
A total of 38 grenades -- nine of them live -- were found along Bobtown Road in Hurlock, Maryland on Monday, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal.
A citizen collecting recyclables discovered the grenades. Maryland State Police, Dorchester County Police and the Hurlock Volunteer Fire Department assisted on the scene. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives also assisted in the investigation.
Safe procedures were conducted immediately at the scene and three live grenades were detonated. The other six were counter charged at a local landfill.
When my daughter was a baby, we gave her the car keys to play with while driving along on a warm & sunny day. The windows were open. When we stopped for gas, I needed the keys back to shut off the engine; uh oh, she'd thrown the keys out the window!
I guess I was lucky, I didn't give her any grenades to play with. She'd probably have thrown them out too!
Seriously- WTH? It's too bad we no longer have anything remotely resembling a "journalist," or even an old-fashioned "reporter." This story has some seriously gaping holes in it!
This is something that you don't see much in the USA. The majority of the weapons found tend to be what is legally available. The last time any military grenades were found around here they were in a house where a WWII vet had passed away. (Somehow he had kept them after he got out of service, and talking to some really old timers that wasn't an uncommon issue back in the day.)
In my defense, I've never dealt with grenades. I have dealt with cannonballs. I had friends who knew this guy who was killed by a cannonball in 2008.
