Vegas Tragedy Keeps Gettier Murkier

10/9/17 Los Angeles Times:
Officials had previously said that gunman Stephen Paddock, 64, of Mesquite, Nev., shot Mandalay Bay security guard Jesus Campos after Paddock had unleashed his deadly volley at the Route 91 Harvest Festival, an assault that began at 10:05 p.m. and left 58 people dead, with hundreds more injured.
They had credited Campos, who was shot in the leg, with stopping the 10-minute assault on the concert crowd by turning the gunman’s attention to the hotel hallway, where Campos was checking an alert for an open door in another guest’s room.
But Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo said Monday that Paddock shot Campos before his mass shooting — at 9:59 p.m. — and they now didn’t know why Paddock stopped his attack on the crowd.
Why shoot the guard?  Did he find the video cameras?  Why didn't this shooting clue police into where Paddock was?

  1. First everyone praises the LVPD for fast work in limiting the carnage, then puzzling details emerge casting doubts on the story of a PD with its act together. Very strange.

  2. First he was indiscriminately firing down into the crowd. Then they say he actually computed his firing angle to insure the bullets came down in the center of the crowd.

First, they said he had acquired tracer ammo and used it on the crowd. Then they said he didn't get tracer ammo, but tried. Now they say he fired incendiary rounds, completely different than tracer, at jet fuel tanks nearby the concert.

For a while I would say I want to see the official report. How many guns, how many with bump-stocks, how many possibly illegal full-auto. How much ammo and what types (legal and illegal), how many magazines and capacity, what the video cameras showed (the ones he set-up), the real facts. Now its taken so long for basic information to be released that I am afraid the myths have already taken over.

And why has it taken so long. We knew the type of guns the Colorado shooter used within 48 hours. Same for the church shooter; we had the gun and his pics of him and the Confederate flag in two days. When it takes this long you know something is really wrong. Something damaging to gun control or a liberal belief.

What does Feinstein already know when she says no new laws would have stopped this guy. Passing background checks doesn't wash with her earlier support for prohibition.
