Where is Captain Obvious?

These fools are unaware that such a non-electronics solution already exists:
The Anu & Naveen Jain Women’s Safety XPRIZE is a $1 million global competition that challenges teams to leverage technology to empower communities with a transformative solution that ensures women’s safety. Armed with innovative safety nets, communities everywhere can rapidly respond to threats against any of its members, ensuring that help is always available when needed.
The winning team’s solution will autonomously and inconspicuously trigger an emergency alert while transmitting information to a network of community responders, all within 90 The winning technology will cost no more than US $40, to help ensure it is affordable.
It looks like this:

Rapidly respond?  Yes.  Call attention to others?  BANG!

  1. But less than $40? I don't think so. $249 from Ruger, more expensive elsewhere.

Also more gun than is needed. IMO, a cheap gun for maximum distribution should be just powerful enough to be dangerous to predators, and thus a deterrent - but no more. Think spines, not fangs.

  2. That's kind of funny as I just pulled my LCP out of my pock and dropped it in the drawer next to my desk.

Frankly though I wouldn't recommend a LCP for most of the ladies. It's small, yes. Too small to handle well.

I'd suggest the slightly bigger G42, or honestly a Glock 43, Smith and Wesson M&P Shield, Springfield XD-S or the Ruger LC9

  3. Yes, but your solution yields too much power to the individual and is not ultimately controlled by the state to the extent that it may be disabled remotely by the state.
