Have Progressives Changed Their Mind About Cake Bakers?

Honolulu’s Café 8 ½ gets rave reviews on Yelp for its “Radiatore Verde” and “Italian stir fry,” among other popular dishes at the eclectic mom-and-pop restaurant – but the response to its new 'policy' barring pro-Trump patrons has been decidedly more mixed.
A bright yellow, handmade sign posted on the restaurant's front glass door declares: “If you voted for Trump you cannot eat here! No Nazis.”
I see; discrimination based on sexual orientation is WRONG, but based on political orientation is just fine.

  1. Legally, yes. I think that sexual orientation is considered a protected category under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, but political affiliation is not. And I'm not sure I'd want to change that; were I a business owner there's no way I'd want to hire any of these leftist snowflakes.

  3. The Obama administration has extended "sex" to "gender" and to sexual orientation. Whether that would hold up in court, I don't know, and it is about to become moot.

That said, the bakers were not discriminating based on sexual orientation - they were refusing to participate in a ceremony they disagreed with. That didn't get them any relief in the leftist states that persecuted them.

I find the entire concept of a "protected class" to be antidemocratic and toxic to America. The left has used the history of truly awful racial discrimination to confuse people enough to apply it to all sorts of new causes - such as the transgender agenda.

  4. They might intend to provoke criticism and then cite that as evidence of right-wing hypocrisy. The proper response is to quote the VP elect: "This is what liberty looks like."
