A Viewsonic Monitor Has Given Up the Ghost
No longer responds to the computer. Is there a reasonably priced LCD monitor repair in Boise? Not having much luck finding one. Boise LCD seems out of business. $150 flat rate for repair makes no sense considering what a new 20" monitor costs.
Does the monitor power on? Does it bring up it's built-in FW menus? If no to these questions a bad capacitor is likely the cause and a common problem and easy to fix for a few dollars. I'm sure Kurt would be happy to fix it for you--I'd do it for you but I don't have a workbench setup like Kurt does plus he has professional grade soldering irons setup. Let me know if you can bring it to Boise for that.
BTW, you can get reasonably good ~28" monitors for around $200 these days (I don't even bother with monitors less than 27" anymore). I picked up a Samsung at a Boise Office Max/Depot a couple of months ago for $199 I think (retail is $250) and it was only a few dollars cheaper via Amazon. Not exactly a hard core gamers monitor but plenty good for coding, web browsing, office apps, etc.
$150 for repair of a monitor is a waste of money unless you are talking about a >30" high dollar monitor....
You might want to find out if the power supply is working correctly. You might be able to get one cheaply on ebay if it's worth it for you to pay that much to find out.
Nick: 1024x768 would be adequate but 1600x1200 would be nice. This is for the computer in the family room, used infrequently which is why I don't need it badly enough to run out and buy a new one.
Do a search for 1600x1200 on Amazon and you'll find some nice deals on used and refurb LCS monitors. $60 for NEC MultiSync: https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B001MZAW8C/ref=sr_1_2_olp?ie=UTF8&qid=1465939395&sr=8-2&keywords=1600x1200&condition=used

It has enough power for the LED to show orange instead of green. AT $150, It is cheaper to buy a new 23". So can you do it? Who is Kurt?
DeleteBring it to Boise is easy; I seem to spend a couple days a week in Boise (like today). Call me 208-761-5916.
DeleteYup, none of the front panel buttons do anything.

ReplyDeleteWhat resolution would you like to have?
