And put a silver based thermal paste. Where it used to go 95 C. immediately, it now maxes at 66 C. I think this is good news.
This suggests 73 C. is a typical healthy temperature.
It did not help that when I finished this the first time I still had the new fan in the original packaging. I removed and reinstalled the broken fan! Fortunately I did not start it up and conclude something else was wrong.
