Let Us Now Praise Great Cars
The Jaguar XF is about the most pleasant road trip car I can imagine, except for the V8 version. Comfortable, frighteningly fast with my wife driving it, and quiet. It averaged 25.6 mpg and 60.7 mph on this trip.
I do love my VW Passat, TDI. Six-speed manual, 2014 vintage, it's turning about 2000 RPM at 80 mph, and loves to cruise at that speed or more. A recent 500+ mile trip, much of it at 80 MPH, netted about 47 MPG. Sure wish we had Autobahns around here!
