"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." -- Rom. 8:28
Careful what you wish for....they grow up, and most fencing is only a mild suggestion to bison. And according to a friend who raises them, there is no such thing as a bison in a good mood.
Years ago, someone decided that bison would be a "good thing" on the Round Valley reservation near Covelo, CA. Yeah, I know, bison have nothing to do with the California tribes, but what does that have to do with it?
As Fidel says, bison view fencing, including barb wire fence used to retain the Angus and Hereford that was already there, as a suggestion. They walked right through it and scattered into the surrounding Mendocino National Forest land. Years later, people, including me, would run into some of them while hunting.
I simply stayed out of their way, so really didn't have any trouble, although the interval where I wound up, inadvertently, between the bull and (I guess) HIS cow and calf had me worried. When he came up the logging road at a gallop, I just stepped into the brush and he rumbled by. The safety was off and the barrel followed him, however.
You might look for pictures of the bison corral in Golden Gate park for an example of what's needed to keep one around.
Uh... call Ted Turner?

ReplyDeleteShe's right. A baby bison would be a cute pet.
ReplyDeleteA full grown bison, however, is pretty much a small car.
