Question For You Smartphone Techies

I am about to replace my antique Motorola Razr with a smartphone.  Is there any strong argument for the Samsung S5 over the S4.

  1. The biggest advantage of the S5 is the environmental rating. The S5 is rated IP67, making it sealed against dust and waterproof to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes.

  2. Thanks. I won't go diving with my S4.

  3. You could also consider the LG G3 or HTC One (M8).

(I'd generally go for the S5 over the 4, because being newer it's more likely to get future updates.)

  4. I'm looking seriously at this one: http://www.catphones.com/phones/s50-smartphone/

"As for durability, the Cat Phones reps at IFA 2014 were more than willing to demonstrate, though they were doing so in the admittedly not-that-harsh environment of a hotel ballroom.Even still, it's uncommon to see a phone manufacturer toss their phone over their shoulder and let it fall to the wooden floor without even flinching. It certainly felt like it could take a beating when we held it, but we'll really believe it when we see it."

  5. I've got an S3 now, fine phone but I am finding more apps not available for it. So, I have a Note4 on order. I think I will enjoy the larger display too.

  6. I still have a Samsung Galaxy S3 and haven't been motivated to upgrade yet.

  7. Whoa, that's quite a phone (from Caterpillar, BTW). GSM ... and am I allowed to be annoyed that it has as much memory as I installed into my server/workstation Tyan motherboard in 2007 (8 GB)? A mere $460 direct from Cat.

  8. I had a Note 2, that I just replaced with the LG G3. The bigger screen's nice.

Clayton, if you can, try to get your phone via Amazon Wireless, or Best Buy, or some other store, rather than buying directly from the carrier. You could save up to a couple hundred dollars depending on the model (I saved $200 by getting my Note 2 from Amazon 2 years ago, and $100 by getting the LG from Best Buy.)
