Successfully got around the Microsoft login problem, but I have no idea how. I downloaded VM Player and installed it. Now waiting for the Mint Linux ISO download. It looks like firefox doesn't work with W8.
I have Firefox running on Window 8. So it's possible. (The only reason I have Win 8 on this machine is for Netflix.)
Virtual Box (https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads) is way better than VM Player, not being a Microsoft product. Virtualboxes.org has pre-made Virtual Box VM machine images, including Mint 14.
If Firefox does not work, try Chrome. I was a happy Firefox user but I switched to Chrome because Firefox does not seem to adapt fast enough to a number of changes. (It's a long story, I'm not going to get into it here.)
Importing bookmarks is fairly simple. For your convenience, here is a link on how to do so.
I wish I could give you more hints about Windows 8, but I've avoided it like the plague. (I'm with you, I've got no clue why Microsoft screwed up 8 so bad when 7 rocked!)

Go straight for Chrome. Firefox behaves like IE on tequila, specially with every Java or Flash update.
ReplyDeleteRunning Firefox, latest version, on Windows 8.1 here. I can't help but think there is something amiss with the install of Win8 on your new machine.
