Conspiracy Theories: Mental Illness, Maybe?

AP news account of the LAX shooter a couple days ago:

The note found in the duffel bag suggested Ciancia was willing to kill almost any TSA officer.

"Black, white, yellow, brown, I don't discriminate," the note read, according to a paraphrase by a law enforcement official briefed on the investigation. The official spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly.

The screed also mentioned "fiat currency" and "NWO," possible references to the New World Order, a conspiracy theory that foresees a totalitarian one-world government.

When searched, the suspect had five 30-round magazines, and his bag contained hundreds more rounds in boxes, the law-enforcement official said.
The rifle was a Smith & Wesson AR-15 pattern rifle.  But this guy moved to California (where neither rifle nor magazines are legal for sale) from New Jersey (ditto) two years ago.  He is way too young to have acquired these before the respective state laws took effect.

This November 2, 2013 USA Today article says that the shooter bought the rifle from a Los Angeles area gun dealer.  Huh?  How?

  1. Hundreds of rounds in boxes?

So, proof he was insane - only a madman would think he'd have time to unload boxes and load magazines.

Doubtless this will lead to calls to ban bulk ammunition sales, because he carries a lot of ammo he never, ever had a chance to touch...

    As to the rifle: Thus.

Cops are bad at explaining that a "bullet button" magazine is CA legal.

You can buy something Just Like An AR With A Slightly Different Mag Release in CA.
