FLORENCE, AZ - A high school student in Florence said he has been suspended because of a picture of a gun.
Daniel McClaine Jr., a freshman at Poston Butte High School, said he saved the picture as his desktop background on his school-issued computer.
A teacher noticed it and turned him in.
The picture shows an AK-47 on top of a flag.
McClaine said the school initially suspended him for three days Friday.
Since the laptop belongs to the school, the district policy states students are prohibited from “sending or displaying offensive messages or pictures,” and cannot access, send, create or forward pictures that are considered “harassing, threatening, or illegal.”
McClaine said he read the guidelines but does not consider the picture threatening to anyone.
“This gun wallpaper does not show anything that’s violent. It's not showing anybody getting shot in any way. It's just a picture of a gun. It's nothing -- nobody getting shot, nobody getting it pointed at them, it's nothing,” said McClaine.
McClaine said the gun is not his. He’s interested in joining the military and said he found it on the internet.

Raving Idiots and Thoughtcrime
I can somewhat see the reasoning behind school districts prohibiting kids playing with toy guns or even simulating a gun with your fingers while playing. They are trying to discourage aggressive forms of play based on the assumption that these will lead to mass murder. This is pretty ridiculous, but I can at least see a connection as having some slight possibility. But stuff like this is proof that raving idiots run some school districts. From ABC Channel 15 in Arizona February 3, 2013:
So if someone brings in a picture of Obama shooting, they will be sent home?
ReplyDeleteThe headline should have read, "News agency correctly identifies gun in photo. Unexpectedly!"
ReplyDeleteLiberals are offended by the very existence of guns.
ReplyDeleteBut I have hope. If aenough kids feel they are treated unfairly by these "Zero Tolerance" policies, the attempt at Liberal brainwashing will backfire.
@Mauser: "Liberals are offended by the very existence of guns."
ReplyDeleteNot quite; Liberals believe that only the government should have guns, all the better to control the unenlightened population.
After all, they know that most of us don't have the advantage of a Harvard education, and so, must be carefully controlled, lest we act on incorrect thoughts.
So does this mean now that we can no longer have images of the flag of Mozambique, Guatemala, or Haiti in schools?
ReplyDeleteI'm laughing because of the name similarity.

On another note, the flag featured in the desktop image was an odd choice.

The school should have given him Political Correctness points for using a Commie flag.
Mauser, that is because to Leftists, might makes right and might makes all the difference. That is why they interpret every dispute in the world as one between differentials of power, not any assessment of laws based on a morality with concepts of right and wrong.
ReplyDeleteEven after the higher education brainwashing, people still desire to have right ascendant and wrong suppressed. From that desire we have to build a morality and a society based on individual liberty.
I'll also be some of the textbooks and some books in the school ibrary have pictgures of guns in them. It is, after all, a high school. Images of guns can't have been eradicated as completely as the word "I" in Anthem, now, can it?
ReplyDeleteIt's too bad this can't be somehow turned around by supplying the school with a picture of the student.
How about another crazy example. On the news today I saw a segment about a kid being suspended in elementary school for pretending (I think it was out on the playground) that he had a grenade he was throwing. I'm talking an "air" grenade as he had nothing in his hand! Apparently the kid just has an active imagination. Not sure what school it was, but I'm sure you can find it via google.
ReplyDeleteThe people that are running too many schools are idiots!
