I think that the $787 billion stimulus was supposed to create jobs. Lots of jobs. If Obama had concentrated on fulfilling some of his campaign promises, such as reducing the deficits by cutting unnecessary spending (which he could easily have done in the two years that he had strong majorities in both houses of Congress, except that he was too busy paying off his supporters with Solyndra and such), he would not be begging for another four years now, because unemployment would be low enough to get re-elected.
