Comment Captcha

Several readers suggested dropping the word verification ("captcha") part of the comment posting process to exclude robots because it really isn't needed.  I did so, and there was a dramatic increase in spam coincident with (and probably caused by) dropping it.  So it is back on.

  1. That's interesting because I've seen a number of other people on blogspot who've turned it off and haven't seen an uptick in spam.

  2. Rick, if they are moderated blogs, you wouldn't. It's the moderator that has to wade through the spam and find the non-spam to approve.

    My gripe is how difficult it is getting for me to interpret the twisted characters that Captcha is using. They keep on getting more and more twisted to stay ahead of the bots, but they are getting to the point that they are too tough for many people to decipher.
