    Happily, I guessed right. It is not in the exact same orbital plane as the Earth so we only see it when 1)Venus passes between us and the Sun AND 2) it is currently passing through Earth's orbital plane.

  3. Very funny. I showed that picture in my Western Civ class, and one rather odd young man covered his eyes to avoid sin. You can imagine what Michaelangelo's David did to him.
