Health Insurance Plan For Illegal Aliens

The May 3, 2012 Los Angeles Times reports on what seems to be an entirely private program:
The pilot program, believed to be the first of its kind in the nation, offers preventive and primary care to low-wage, uninsured workers in the restaurant industry. Legal immigrants and other restaurant workers who don't meet the criteria or cannot afford coverage under the healthcare law are also eligible.

...

Under the program, called ROC-MD, uninsured workers pay $25 a month so they can go to one of several clinics run by St. John's Well Child and Family Center for physicals, basic dental care and treatment for common illnesses. The program started last fall, but organizers formally announced it Wednesday and are now recruiting more participants.
The coverage doesn't replace traditional health insurance but helps ensure that workers have a place to go for preventive care so they don't end up in emergency rooms, said Joseph Villela, senior policy advocate with the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles.
As a commenter points out, this is a private insurance plan--and at least as described, one that requires no government intervention or taxes.  Wouldn't it be nice if someone did this for U.S. citizens and legal aliens working low-wage, uninsured jobs in the restaurant industry?  But apparently only illegal aliens are worth caring about.

  1. I guess they are important since illegals don't have to show ID in those states they get to vote Democrat and since they depend on the big government programs that the Dems support (and from which the politicos skim money for themselves and their cronies)!

  2. Actually, the plan sounds completely illegal under Obamacare.

  3. Because illegal aliens are not eligible for Obamacare (amazingly enough) it is possible that this is the only group for whom it is legal.

  4. Well, possibly. But I meant that it fails to offer the chrome plated buffet table of required "free" provisions that Obamacare uses to make sure that we can't actually afford that "guaranteed" health insurance.
