Gun Control Activists Carrying Concealed

Media Matters for America is the propaganda machine that spends a lot of time promoting leftist points of view.  There's nothing wrong with that--they have a right to free speech--but the guy that runs Media Matters apparently has some hypocrisy problems.  While calling support for shall-issue concealed weapon permit laws "extremist," calling proponents of such dishonest, etc., it turns out that David Brock had one of his employees illegally carrying a concealed handgun in Washington, D.C. to protect him.  And that's only part of the paranoia.  As the February 12, 2012 Daily Caller explains:
David Brock was smoking a cigarette on the roof of his Washington, D.C. office one day in the late fall of 2010 when his assistant and two bodyguards suddenly appeared and whisked him and his colleague Eric Burns down the stairs.
Brock, the head of the liberal nonprofit Media Matters for America, had told friends and co-workers that he feared he was in imminent danger from right-wing assassins and needed a security team to keep him safe.
The threat he faced while smoking on his roof? “Snipers,” a former co-worker recalled.
“He had more security than a Third World dictator,” one employee said, explaining that Brock’s bodyguards would rarely leave his side, even accompanying him to his home in an affluent Washington neighborhood each night where they “stood post” to protect him. “What movement leader has a detail?” asked someone who saw it.

The article goes on to explain a number of other bizarre behaviors by Brock as well--signs of serious mental disturbance, if true.   But the real meat of the hypocrisy was this:

By 2010, Brock’s personal assistant, a man named Haydn Price-Morris, was carrying a holstered and concealed Glock handgun when he accompanied Brock to events, including events in Washington, D.C., a city with famously restrictive gun laws. Price-Morris told others he carried the gun to protect Brock from threats.
Late in 2010, other Media Matters employees learned about Price-Morris’s gun, and he was fired due to their objections. No public announcement was made.
According to one source with knowledge of what happened next, Brock was “terrified” that news of the gun would leak. “George Soros and a lot of groups connected to gun control are funding this group, and they wouldn’t be too happy that an employee of Media Matters was carrying a gun, especially when it was illegal in D.C.”

John Lott has an article at Fox News pointing out that this is not a matter of Media Matters for America being relatively silent about gun control.  They have been an unrelenting force for restrictive gun control, and specifically to punish what Brock apparently had his bodyguard do:
The group's opposition to guns has largely been a “scorched earth” approach, demonizing supporters of gun ownership and concealed handgun laws.
According to Media Matters, laws letting law-abiding citizens carry concealed handguns for protection are "dangerous." They assert these citizens "endanger" police officers and "compromise public safety." And derisively refer to the “cult of victimhood,” where crime victims and defensive gun uses are pointed at to justify gun ownership. They claim that it is a “myth” that concealed handguns reduce crime and label those who disagree “extremist”.

Brock used to be a conservative...until he came out of the closet.  You could almost suspect that having to be used to duplicity as a teenager and young adult about one thing made it easier to be duplicitous about everything else.

  1. I've seen a theory that David Brock was acting as a double agent when he was an alleged conservative. Maybe he was really a triple agent.
