Nothing As Entertaining As Watching Democrats Shoot Themselves in the Foot

From Washington DC CBS:
After Baltimore’s first round of rowdy protests on Saturday, Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake came under fire for saying that the city gave people “who wished to destroy” space to do so.

“I worked with the police and instructed them to do everything that they could to make sure that the protesters were able to exercise their right to free speech,” Rawlings-Blake said to the media Saturday evening.

“It’s a very delicate balancing act because while we tried to make sure that they were protected from the cars and the other things that were going on, we also gave those who wished to destroy space to do that as well.”

On Monday, at another news conference on the riots that broke out in the streets following Freddie Gray’s funeral, Rawlings-Blake said she was misunderstood.
Here's the video of her putting her foot into her mouth:
Have the savages start at your house Mayor.

  1. I think Hanlon's razor (Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.) applies here.

The mayor of Baltimore is at least inept, but on this, I think she's a victim of her ambiguous phrasing. I believe her meaning was as she described it later - that in allowing space for free expression, she inadvertently also allowed space for rioters to destroy things.

She and the Democrat Party (along with a few Republicans) are really responsible for the mess in the inner cities. At best, they continually attack problems by trying to fix symptoms ("the poor are poor because they don't have money so we need to give them some") rather than ask the hard questions, as Moynihan did fifty years go.

That's not to say that all or even most of the left is merely misguided or stupid. I think most of them actively worked to cultivate a class of supporters who are treated like pets who are given "treats" (somebody else's money) as long as they vote the right way.

  2. probably right. She wanted them yo have space to vent their anger, but did not realize what the savages would do. a COMMON LIBERAL FAILING: NO UNDERSTANDING OF HUMAN NATURE.

  3. I just heard a report that the mayor asked the police to stand down even if the demonstrations turn into looting. While that doesn't necessarily contradict my assessment, it sure makes it a much weaker position. After all, asking the police not to intervene in looting isn't a whole lot different from giving the rioters room to destroy things. I already didn't have much respect for the competence of the mayor, but as you say, she has no understanding of human nature and one might suggest she doesn't have a lot of understanding of anything else either.
